For the second largest city of the island of Mauritius in Curepipe is a busy commercial center known for its Highland rainy weather and clothing shops. Its strange name comes from the renowned malaria epidemic of 1867, when people flee the lowlands of Port Louis would be the “cure” smoking their pipes by the bacteria of malaria here, though it is in fact named after a city more recalls in France.

Although there are only of limited interest to most visitors, it is a pleasant half-day trip back to the beach. Shoppers in search of clothes you negotiate it right here and there a few interesting sites, including a mini perfectly formed crater.

Curepipe is the highest plateau of the cities. A 550 m altitude, temperatures are refreshingly cool in summer, but the city is often shrouded in clouds. The humid climate makes the aging buildings, the quality of the mold. Bring an umbrella, because rain without warning, at any time of year. After Plains, Curepipe has two seasons: the rainy season fairly large and heavy rains soon.
